SonLight Power - Foodbank in Puerto Rico
My Fundraising Page
Message from SonLight Power - Foodbank in Puerto Rico:
This project will provide sustainable, uninterrupted power for critical needs of a foodbank serving residents of Humacao in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Humacao has an estimated population of 55,000 and is located along the eastern coast of Puerto Rico, an area hit hardest by Maria’s path.
The foodbank is operated by Centro de Discipulado Mundial (World Discipleship Center), a nondenominational church serving Humacao. Project will replace the need for emergency generator, which costs about $1,665/month ($20,000/year) to operate, translating to an estimated payback period of 3 years.
Currently, the foodbank is subject to power outages, which adversely affects its ability serve the needs of vulnerable families in the community. Inconsistent power contributes to inability to refrigerate/preserve food and remain open after daylight.
