“I've held my iPhone flashlight over the operating room table for the surgeons. And I'd say our biggest user of our CPAP machines are our premature babies. If they're on a machine and it stops working, it can be devastating.”

– Christine Penny, Anesthesiology Assistant & Respiratory Therapist at ABWE | HBB in Togo, on the lifesaving impact the SonLight Power-built solar microgrid will have at the hospital

Reliable, affordable electricity can save lives. Look no further than the video above.

In 2026, SonLight Power partnered with ABWE (Association of Baptists for World Evangelism) to install a solar microgrid solution for the energy challenges at Hôpital Baptiste Biblique (HBB), a missions-based hospital run by ABWE in Togo, West Africa.

Hear from ABWE's talented healthcare practitioners and staff in Togo as they share their firsthand perspectives on the importance of reliable, stable, affordable electricity at the hospital.

The hospital serves as a critical healthcare hub in the region, admitting about 3,000 patients annually and performing some 1,400 operations. It provides medical services to people across the West African nations of Togo, Ghana, Benin, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.

Before the project was installed, the hospital experienced frequent, unreliable power, ranging from daily outages to dozens of fluctuations within minutes. This instability damages essential equipment, such as lab machines, computers, and X-ray machines.

Furthermore, it created dangerous situations in the operating room and threatened the lives of premature babies relying on breathing machines.

To solve these life-threatening issues, ABWE partnered with and trusted SonLight Power to design and install a solar microgrid featuring 300+ solar panels.

See testimonials from hospital staff who valued working with SonLight Power solar experts who are familiar with planning and executing such a complex installation in the mission field.

The solar microgrid with lithium battery bank is expected to provide essentially free electricity from the sun, which will dramatically reduce operating costs. This financial stability will allow the hospital to keep patient fees fixed for longer and represents a significant game-changer for the facility's operations.

What's more, it'll be a life-saving project for years to come.

This is more than solar power. It’s a testimony of God’s love made practical.
