SLP Family trip June 08

Greetings All!
The SLP Family team just returned from Honduras after three successful installs, including the 50th install milestone, accomplished on Wednesday, June 4 at Escuela Dionisio de Herrera in El Caracol, about 45 minutes from San Marcos, our three day headquarters in the Choluteca area.
All three installs were accomplished despite more than normal trials and tribulations but the team, including five girls ages 10-15, worked well together, especially in trying conditions. Faulty soldering in solar panel junction boxes delayed the completion of the first day's install just enough so we didn't beat the rain - a daily event that starts between 1 & 3 o'clock during the rainy season.
After waiting for a pause in the downpour to erect the pole, we made the final connections, turned on the lights, presented a "made for kids" laptop to the teacher in honor of our 50th install, accomplished training, then had to hike out (uphill) to help one of the trucks out of the mud. We had to repeat this two more times as the rain made numerous mud holes in the "road".
We finally made it back to the Shalom hotel 12 hours after we left, feeling somewhat like drowned rats, but thankful for God's faithfulness for providing what we needed JUST when we needed it. We planned to attend church with Pastor David Rodriquez, an associate of Pastor Cesar of Real Church in Choluteca, but we probably would have scared everyone off the way we looked, not to mention our need for rest. So, Thursday night Pastor David brought a couple of his worship team over to join us for dinner and we fellowshipped and worshiped for much of the evening, singing in English and Spanish.
There is much more to tell - such as how impressed we were when the presidential bus showed up to take us from Tegucigalpa to San Marcos. However, I am going to open this blog up for the team to share their thoughts....much more to come...AR

welcome back!!
This was an amazing trip! I don't think I have ever been so muddy, tired, or blessed before on a mission trip. The kids and teachers were so glad that we were there, and it was so fun to serve them.
Claire and I have both had great individual experiences on international mission trips in the past. But this trip was extra special in that we were able to go as a family and share the same experiences together. It was a great opportunity to teach our girls to embrace adventure and go beyond what is comfortable. The work we did was great for a family as each of us had a task to do, we each felt we were contributing, but we were also stretched as we learned new skills. There were immediate, practical results that made a visible difference in the lives of others. I think our young girls were able to understand the practical results of our work easier than visualizing the long-term impact the church will have in the community. But we also witnessed God at work in the local church resulting in a local passion and determination to serve currently unchurched communities. I give this trip 5 stars for families like ours that have girls 10 & 12 years old.
The trip was a good learning experience. I liked riding in the back of the truck and it was fun climbing the pole to untie the rope. I got muddy and wet but I still had a good time.
The trip was a fun experience.
One of my favorite parts was eating most of a fish head. The trip was fun because we got to do fun stuff with the kids. I think god has blessed us having us go on the mission.
This was a wonderful and memorable experience for our family. We could see the immediate impact of our work there, and the smiles on the children's faces was priceless. We were able to show them the love of Jesus in ways they had never imagined, but they impacted us to an even greater extent. God has given us a love for the Honduran people. I'm so glad we got to experience this as a family.
I am so glad to had the opportunity to be part of the team..!!
Every trip is such a blessing for my life..!!
A trip of a lifetime for my wife, my (3) girls and me!
What a great week of excitement, fear, anticipation, celebration, praise, serving, hard work, reliance on God and praise.
Thank you to all who prayed for and supported Sonlight Power on this trip.
Working along side the Honduras SLP team, Honduras pastors and the teachers and parents of the schools was special.
Thank you Lord for the opportunity.
